What is Spiritual Awakening?

You may have heard the term Spiritual Awakening lately.  Some people describe it as the feeling of changes in the collective, some people discuss it as a right of passage, others discuss it as the latest “cool” thing we should all be doing.  But what is Spiritual Awakening and how can you tell if you are experiencing it or not?

Spiritual Awakening is a profound shift in how we experience the world.  When we shift from the belief that we are a distinct individual, alone, interacting with other distinct individuals in a material world to an understanding that we are part of a larger consciousness that is divinely connected to all other human beings, animals, plants and universes. We recognize that there is far more beneath the surface than we had ever contemplated before.

For some a Spiritual Awakening can be as little as recognizing that some of the narratives we’ve believed for the majority of our lives are not actually true.  For others it can come crashing in like a tidal wave and wash away so many pieces of our previous life that we have no option but to start rebuilding from the beginning.  For most, it’s just a slow opening of our consciousness to recognize that there is something larger out there, a bigger story/experience that is worth contemplating and in that contemplation we re-orient our lives around a new set of truths or guiding principles that recognize the limitations of our human 1.0 existence and open the door for Human 2.0 to emerge.

How can you know whether you’re experiencing a Spiritual Awakening?  Sometimes it’s just that life as we’ve come to live it doesn’t feel particularly “right” anymore.  The things we used to regularly do, no longer bring the same satisfaction.  The systems we rely upon may not actually provide what we thought they’d provide.  The conventional way of doing things no longer brings satisfaction.  Our relationships no longer meet our needs.

It’s important to understand that any of these scenarios are NORMAL and divinely guided.  Futurists have predicted the “Great Awakening” for decades now.  One of the most clear dialogs around consciousness and awakening has been described through the Principles of Spiral Dynamics.  Professor of Psychology, Clare W Graves researched how different eras had similar themes and ideas (vMemes) that glued people, governments and societies together.  Over time, these themes and ideas evolve into new, altered vMemes that shift people, governments and societies into a different gestalt or societal way.  As human evolution happens, societal evolution happens as well, just more slowly and at a larger scale. This is why, when we look back in history, we can stand aghast at how cultures and societies valued actions that in our current society would be considered barbaric or colonial or racist.

Every stage of Spiral Dynamics has a story arc that has a beginning, a middle and an end.  They all start with the excitement and blind opportunity of the potential of creating a better world, then they impact enough people to enact real change in the society where a larger percentage of all the people accept and promote these ideals and then the evolution of the initial ideas heads toward the negative, less productive side, heralding the need for visualizing the next consciousness.  The Spiral Dynamic story arc is felt on an individual level, on a collective level and at a universal level.  Each system goes through its own adaptation into new ideas, new ways of interacting and new ways of inculcating its beliefs.

The belief is that the human experiment on Earth is constantly evolving and over time shifts to transcend (step away from) ideas that are not worth bringing forward, yet including those things from past consciousness that are worth keeping around.  These different consciousnesses aligned to different eras are the basis for theory of Spiral Dynamics and each era is assigned a different color to “capture” the tenants of that particular time in human history.  Rob & Trace Bell (podcasters) did a fantastic podcast series on Spiral Dynamics called “Me, We and Everybody” which details all the stages/colors and key aspects to each, you can find links to the episodes here: https://www.tracebelll.com/meweeverybody  So Spiral Dynamics can explain not only why societies evolve it can explain why humans evolve!

Suffice it to say that in the 1960’s our world shifted into “Yellow” Consciousness. Yellow Consciousness is the first of the “second tier” Integrative consciousness levels. And it is exemplified by people awakening to the fact that they are one part of a larger world, they are connected not only by technology, but by vibration.  Humans are feeling that there is something new they are being called to, something important, something more and it starts with those little inklings about what you see in front of you is not the entire picture or story.

A Spiritual Awakening is using these inklings to get curious about what it is that’s not adding up for you in your life anymore.  Feeling into those things that just don’t fit, or don’t feel good.  Reconnecting with your Inner Truth, so that you can better parse all the outer truths that come at you fast and furious.  What’s important to know is that many people, like me, have gone through this exact process 1 year ago, 10 years ago or 30 years ago and they are being called to lend a helping hand to you.  To help you create a method to interpret the new “downloads” and to recognize what your body/soul needs to navigate these new waters.  It’s an exciting time, one to be cherished, not feared.

More and more humans will be awakening.  This year, 2026, will see unprecedented hoards of people who will receive the call to curiosity and a better understanding of their place on this mortal coil.  Find trusted guides who can help you traverse the path and know that you are divinely held, you are a beautiful soul here on an eternal journey and you are right where you need to be.
